Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Des Allemands resident for alleged deer hunting violations on Dec. 21 in St. Charles Parish.
Agents cited Jeffery J. Lemoine, Jr., 41, for taking over the daily bag limit of deer, failing to comply with deer tagging requirements, failing to change ownership of a boat registration, and an expired boat registration certificate.
Agents were on patrol near Eighty Arpent Canal in Hahnville when they contacted Lemoine as he returned by vessel to a public boat launch. Agents observed two harvested antlered deer within Lemoine’s vessel. Lemoine admitted to harvesting both deer during his evening hunt.
After further investigation, agents also observed both deer to be untagged. Agents also found that Lemoine failed to change ownership of the vessel he was operating, which also displayed an expired registration certificate.
Agents seized both deer and donated them to a local charity.
Taking over the daily bag limit of deer carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Failure to comply with deer tagging requirements brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Failure to change ownership of a boat registration and expired boat registration certificate carries up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail for each offense.
Lemoine may also face civil restitution totaling $3,249 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
