Botswana, Africa – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) emerged from a peaceful election on Friday with a majority of seats in the national assembly, ensuring President Mokgweetsi Masisi another term as President of Botswana.
As president of the wildlife-rich southern African nation, President Masisi has taken bold action to reintegrate legal, regulated hunting as part of his country's wildlife conservation plan.
His recent decision to reopen strictly regulated elephant hunting, for example, will not only help reduce human-elephant conflict but also reduce poaching of all animal species as hunting revenue will better fund Botswana's anti-poaching efforts.
SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin congratulated the Botswana president on his recent reelection, saying “President Masisi has distinguished himself as a role model for African wildlife conservationists and as a decisive leader who is not afraid to make the right decision for both his country's people and its wildlife, even if it means facing fierce, baseless criticism from uninformed anti-hunting activists in both his own country and in the western countries. On behalf of Safari Club International, we offer him sincere congratulations and we look forward to assisting him however possible to ensure the continued conservation of Botswana's wildlife.”
