Recreational and Commercial Flounder Seasons Closed in November
Anglers are reminded that possessing, taking, or attempting to take flounder harvested in the waters of Alabama for commercial or recreational purposes from November 1 through November 30 is prohibited.
“Flounder migrate from Mobile Bay, the Mississippi Sound and other inshore waters into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn beginning in November each year,” said Kevin Anson, Chief Biologist with the Alabama Marine Resources Division (MRD). “The November closure was established to protect these migrating fish to help grow the population.”
Flounder fishing in Alabama is important to both commercial and recreational anglers and the MRD is dedicated to rebuilding the fishery.
“The season changes that were made this year and the implementation of a flounder program at the Claude Peteet Mariculture Center will play major roles in that rebuilding process,” MRD Director Scott Bannon said.
Greater Amberjack Closes November 1
Alabama state waters will close to the recreational harvest of greater amberjack at 12:01 a.m., November 1, 2019, to coincide with the closing of Gulf federal waters. State and federal waters will remain closed to the possession of Amberjack through April 30, 2020.
