WAUNAKEE, Wis. (WISC) - A Friends of the NRA fundraiser is under fire from protesters who believe one of the auction prizes doesn’t belong in their community.
The fundraiser dinner at Rex’s Inkeeper in Waunakee Wednesday evening raised money for area programs involving youth sport shooting, including the Boy Scouts of America.
The raffle prize gun, described in the event’s flyer as the “AR-15’s Big Brother,” has some saying it has no place in the area after school shootings such as the one in Parkland, Florida, where an AR-15-style gun was used.
"We want them to know we don't want that type of weapon here, or anywhere,” Waunakee resident Gail Walker said.
Signs lining the sidewalk sent a message to a Friends of the NRA fundraiser across the street that dozens of protesters, including students and adults, aren’t happy with the raffle prize.
