Students at a Florida high school organized a walkout on Friday in support of the Second Amendment.
About 75 students left class on Friday and walked to the school’s track with flags and signs in favor of gun rights.
The march was organized by sophomore Chloe Deaton and junior Anna Delaney, who are part of the school’s Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Academy, Florida Today reported[1].
"It was important to me because the other walkout that happened on March 14 for the Parkland students was political and was big support for gun control," Deaton told Fox News[2] on Sunday. "Personally, I don't believe that gun control's the best idea. Everyone has the right to have their own opinion and I believe that our right should have just been expressed and that's what we wanted to do."
The protest follows the national school walkout on March 14, where students at around 2,800 schools walked out of classes to protest gun violence and commemorate the 17 students who were killed during a school shooting in Florida on Feb. 14.
The event also comes just a few days after the “March for Our Lives” rally to protest gun violence that was organized by many of the student survivors of the Parkland shooting.
Some of the students who walked out on Friday said they felt silenced by the national anti-gun movement that resulted from the Parkland shooting.
Student survivors of the Parkland shooting have put pressure on politicians to pass gun control laws and have specifically criticized the National Rifle Association and politicians supported by the gun group.
