NAGR Calls on Speaker Schexnayder to Strip Democrat State Rep. Ted James of Committee Chairmanship
Anti-gun Democrat Ted James should be removed from committee that oversees gun bills
Baton Rouge, LA – Today, the National Association for Gun Rights is urging Republican House Speaker Clay Schexnayder to remove anti-gun Democrat Ted James as Chairman of the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee.
“With Republicans holding large majorities in the Louisiana House of Representatives, there’s no excuse for Speaker Schexnayder to keep an anti-gun Democrat like Ted James chair of the committee responsible for hearing gun bills,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.
Speaker Schexnayder just stripped two Democrats from their positions as chairs of committees after several opposed holding the veto override session, this after signaling support for several pieces of legislation supported by the Republican majority, including Constitutional Carry.
“Instead of playing cute and appointing Democrats to key committee posts, gun owners expect Speaker Schexnayder to be leader in the fight for Constitutional Carry, and he can do that by appointing a pro-gun Republican like Danny McCormick or Blake Miguez to replace Ted James as chair of the House Administration of Criminal Justice,” said Brown.
While Rep. James ultimately allowed Constitutional Carry bills to come through his committee, he was a vocal opponent every step of the way and made it evident that he was only doing it because Schexnayder ordered him to do so. Having such a vocal opponent to the Second Amendment as chair of such an important committee is soundly opposed by the National Association for Gun Rights and its members.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s second largest pro-gun organization, with 4.5
